چکیده

Introduction: The aging process is characterized by physiological changes which impair numerous organs and systems, especially their functions [1]. Diffusion weighted magnetic resonance spectroscopy (DW-MRS), which introduces pairs of diffusion gradients to MRS, is of fundamental interest because it allows evaluation of the intrinsic diffusion properties of the metabolites, which is more relevant for the understanding of pathphysiological process [2]. With the rapid development of imaging technology, significant change due to aging effect in the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of total cerebral creatine/phosphocreatine (tCr) has been obtained from previous research with animal models [3]. The purpose of this study was using DW-MRS to reveal the aging-related changes in diffusion of metabolites in human brain in vivo.

Diffusion-Weighted Spectroscopy of Water and Cerebral Metabolites at Very Large b Values – What Multiple Components Tell Us

OVERVIEW MR Spectroscopy at large diffusion weighting can specifically look at intracellular components of tissue that are characterized by restricted diffusion and a small apparent diffusion coefficient. Beyond water, H MRS of metabolites at large diffusion weighting proved to be very useful to separate extraand intracellular contributions of metabolites in the brain. Further application of di...

Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration: MR imaging, proton MR spectroscopy, and diffusion MR imaging findings.

We herein report the case of a 15-year-old male patient with pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration. The classic "eye-of-the-tiger" appearance was initially present on the globus pallidi on T2-weighted MR images and had disappeared by the time of the 10-month follow-up examination. Fluid-attenuated inversion recovery images revealed marked hypointensity in the globus pallidi and denta...

Acute Ethanol-Induced Changes in Edema and Metabolite Concentrations in Rat Brain

The aim of this study is to describe the acute effects of EtOH on brain edema and cerebral metabolites, using diffusion weight imaging (DWI) and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H-MRS) at a 7.0T MR and to define changes in apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values and the concentration of metabolites in the rat brain after acute EtOH intoxication. ADC values in each ROI decreased si...

Apparent diffusion coefficients of metabolites in patients with MELAS using diffusion-weighted MR spectroscopy.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE DW-MR spectroscopy can detect the diffusion coefficients of NAA, Cr, PCr, and Cho and can, therefore, provide some useful information. The aims of this study were to probe the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of MELAS and to see whether DW-MR spectroscopy is a useful technique for other diseases besides cerebral infarction. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifteen healthy vo...
